“SWEET ADELINE”

One of my favorite ways to turn on my creativity is to tune into 1920s music, light candles, and drink from a dainty tea cup.

I feel the magic of the music.

It transports me back into an age I’m familiar with, perhaps from a past life. I can see myself standing in a frivolous gown, drinking “giggle water”, smoking a cig and admiring something beautiful. I discovered this when I was a young girl, obsessing over the 20s. Eventually my passion materialized into a collection of flapper girl paintings (featured below). Boy howdy, was it exciting!

The black and white acrylic came first. At the age of twelve, it became my first painting that I varnished and featured in my portfolio for an arts school. Two years into attending that art school, my initial colored oil painting blossomed into a lady named “Adeline” (featured below). The name came to me from a number of mysterious “coincidences” I had whilst painting it, one being a confirmation from a song.

I gave acrylic the boot and stepped into the realm of oil painting. The slow drying, the soft, fluid layering process, and the malleable qualities of the paint allowed me the time and movement to create.

Naturally, a year or so later, my skills fermented and I wanted another attempt at Adeline, another chance to bring her forth in all her glory.

Enter “Sweet Adeline”, the honey mead of the collection.

We’re putting on the ritz and getting a wiggle on for future additions.
